Runi Responded to Bredy's Criticism

Former Birmingham City manager Wayne Runi believes that the criticism of his work ethic from NFL legend Tom Bredy was "very unjustified."

Runi expressed his dissatisfaction regarding Bredy's comments during the new podcast "Show Wayne Runi," which starts on September 15, 2025.

Bredy, who has been a part-owner of Birmingham since September 2023, expressed disappointment regarding Runi's work in a documentary about the club. He stated that there were "traces of a stubborn work ethic from our head coach."

Runi replied that Bredy does not understand the specifics of football, and his experience in the NFL is fundamentally different. "Football is not like the NFL — the NFL works three months a year. Players also need a break," Runi noted.

Runi managed Birmingham for only 83 days, after which he was dismissed in January 2024. At that moment, the club was already ranked 20th in the Championship table.

Following Runi's dismissal, the club reported further difficulties, including changes to the coaching staff and a reduced budget for League One.

Runi also emphasized that Bredy considers himself a sportsman, but believes that his comments were not clearly understood.

In the summer of 2024, new owners invested £30 million in transfers, which became a record for League One, and the club finished the season in first place.
