The Chelsea football club has decided to donate part of the prize, received for winning the World Cup among clubs, for the financial support of the families of Diogo Jota and Andre Silva. This gesture comes after the tragic death of the brothers in a car accident on July 3, 2025, in Spain.
In July, Chelsea won the trophy by defeating Paris Saint-Germain with a score of 3-0 in the final, which took place at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. The club received approximately $114.6 million. Of this amount, $15.5 million was allocated for the players who took part in the competitions, as well as for the Jota family.
Each player who participated in the final receives over $500, after currency conversion and tax deductions. One of the Chelsea players, who also played for Liverpool, Diogo Jota will be honored during the match, and the club has already announced a series of events in his memory, including the establishment of a memorial sculpture.
Liverpool plans to hold a moment of silence and present a mosaic, created by fans, during the first match of the season against Bournemouth at Anfield Stadium. The club will also permanently retire the number 20, which Jota wore, at all levels.
