PESHAVAR, Pakistan — The team of climbers recovered on Thursday the body of the Chinese climber Guan Xin, who died on the second highest mountain in the world, K2. According to reports, poor weather conditions hindered the use of helicopters for transporting the body.
Guan Xin fell under a rockfall in the morning while descending from the summit of K2, where she reached the peak together with a group of climbers. According to local official Faizullah Farak, her body is located at an altitude between 100 and 150 meters above the base camp at an elevation of approximately 5,400 meters.
K2, with an altitude of 8,611 meters, is notorious for its deadly heights. Currently, the team is waiting for improved weather conditions to carry out the operation to retrieve the body.
It is noted that Guan Xin was one of 30 climbers who reached the summit of K2 on the same day. This incident was the fourth fatal accident in the summer climbing season in Pakistan, where usually numerous expeditions take place from early June to late September.
In total, two of the four accidents occurred on K2, one on Nanga Parbat, and another on the less known peak Laila, where last month the German Olympic biathlete Laura Dahlmeier died.
