Massive attacks on civilians are beginning in Syria
- The UN Commission has identified systematic attacks on civilians in Syria
- The abduction of women and violence against minorities during the conflict
- The situation in the region is deteriorating due to new military conflicts
In Beirut, investigations by the UN have revealed "widespread and systematic" attacks on civilians, including against representatives of the Alawite minority in Syria. The report, published on September 14, 2025, documents the violence that began in the Alawite region this year during clashes between armed groups linked to former President Bashar al-Assad and new government security forces.
According to the report's data, as a result of these clashes, hundreds of civilians were killed. Attacks on Alawite communities were accompanied by abductions, torture, and violence. It has been noted that representatives of several government factions, including the 62nd and 76th divisions of the new Syrian army, participated in these acts of violence.
The commission found that certain groups associated with Assad committed killings and torture, but there was no evidence that the central government directly ordered these attacks. Meanwhile, apart from the investigation conducted by the government, it has been confirmed that over 1,400 individuals, mostly civilians, were killed as a result of the violence.
The report also mentions reports of the abduction of Alawite women, including instances where women were abducted for sexual slavery.
This situation is deteriorating against the backdrop of new conflicts that have erupted in the province of Suwayda, where government forces and local clans clashed, leading to new casualties and displacement of the population.
