ATP announces record bonus for tennis players in 2024
- Bonuses for tennis players in 2024 increased by 177%
- The revenue distribution program was introduced in 2022
- Total compensation for players reached 378 million dollars
In 2024, male tennis players will receive a record bonus of 18.3 million dollars (13.5 million pounds sterling) as part of the revenue distribution program. This amount represents an increase of 177% compared to the previous season.
Bonuses will be distributed based on players' results in the nine ATP 1000 tournaments, which are upcoming after the four Grand Slam tournaments. "This is precisely why the revenue distribution program was created: to ensure an equitable distribution between players and tournaments," stated ATP President Andrea Gaudenzi in his announcement.
Thanks to this program, which was established in 2022, the total amount of compensation for ATP players reached a record 261 million dollars (192.7 million pounds sterling) in 2024. Overall, taking into account prize money from the Grand Slam tournaments, this amount will total 378 million dollars (279.2 million pounds sterling).
ATP also announced plans to achieve new records in compensation, including 28.5 million dollars (21 million pounds sterling) in prize money on the Challenger Tour and 3 million dollars (2.2 million pounds sterling) in bonuses for ATP 500.
An increase in the number of participants in the Masters 1000 tournaments to 96 players improved earning opportunities, giving a chance for more athletes to gain stable income from the sport. ATP also highlighted the "wave of investment in infrastructure," especially sports arenas in Madrid, Rome, Cincinnati, Shanghai, and Paris, which have upgraded their conditions to enhance players' and spectators' experiences.
