Brentford Will Not Include Vissa in the Squad for the First Match
- Forward of Brentford, Yoane Wissa will miss the first match of Brentford in the Premier League.
- Coach Kit Andrews acknowledged that the situation with Wissa disrupted the team's preparation.
- Wissa returned to training only after being released from a proposal from Newcastle.
LONDON (AP) — Brentford forward Yoane Wissa will not be included in the squad for the team's season opener in the Premier League against Nottingham Forest, coach Kit Andrews announced on Thursday.
Wissa left the Brentford training camp in Portugal at the beginning of July and returned to training with the main team only at the start of this month after the club withdrew the proposal from Newcastle. Last season he finished sixth in the scoring list of the Premier League, scoring 19 goals.
Andrews noted that the situation with Wissa had a negative impact on the team's preparation. He expressed a desire for Wissa to remain with the team, but admitted that for now, that is not possible.
"This is a very disruptive pre-season period. I want Yoane to be in the team, but we need to focus on the players who are ready to play," Andrews said.
Wissa, who joined Brentford in August 2021, is eager to move to a club that may allow him to participate in the Champions League.
