Oleksandr Usyk Requests Extension of Negotiations Regarding the Fight
- Usyk received a request to delay negotiations with Parker.
- Parker could become the WBO champion if Usyk decides to vacate the title.
- The winner of the fight between Itauma - Wait will become a potential super contender for Parker.
Negotiations regarding the fight between Oleksandr Usyk and Joseph Parker are being delayed due to the injury of the Ukrainian boxer, reported promoter Frank Warren. Usyk, who recently defeated Daniel Dubois in a rematch in July, received the status of the undisputed champion in the heavyweight division.
It is noted that Parker is the mandatory challenger for Usyk's title, and he was instructed to defend his belt against the New Zealander, who is the WBO champion in the interim status. According to Warren's words, Usyk has turned down the request for an extension of the negotiation term due to the injury.
Warren emphasized that in the case that Usyk decides to vacate the title, Parker will be able to fight the winner of the fight between Moses Itauma and Dillian Whyte, who are also competing in his promotional stable. "If Moses or Dillian win, they will become contenders #1," said Warren.
Joseph Parker recently returned to the ring in July when he knocked out Martin Bakole in the second round. Usyk, in turn, became a two-time absolute champion of the world in the heavyweight division, having achieved this status in July 2024, defeating Tyson Fury.
