Kodak Confirms It Is Not Closing and Plans to Reduce Debt

  • Kodak denies rumors about the company's closure.
  • It plans to reduce its debt by approximately 500 million dollars.
  • Management believes that the company's balance will improve by the end of 2025.

This was reported by TechCrunch, Mezha.

The Eastman Kodak company denied rumors about a potential closure. In its statement, published on September 14, 2025, Kodak emphasized that it has no intention of ceasing operations or filing for bankruptcy.

Recent reports in major media outlets, including CNN and CNBC, referred to the company's financial difficulties, including debts amounting to nearly 500 million dollars, which are expected to be repaid over the next 12 months. The company indicated that it does not have "sufficient financing or access to liquidity" to cover these debts.

However, Kodak announced plans to raise 300 million dollars, which it expects to obtain in the first half of 2025 from the liquidation of its pension plan, to pay off a significant portion of its debts. The remaining debt amounts to 177 million dollars and 100 million dollars from preferred stocks, which the company intends to refinance or continue to service.

Kodak's management stated that after completing the agreement with the pension fund, the company's balance will become "the strongest in recent years," and the net debt will be reduced to zero. They emphasized that operational activity will remain stable, and the company does not plan to use funds from the pension fund for financing ongoing operations.

It is noteworthy that Kodak, founded 133 years ago, has already faced financial difficulties, including filing for bankruptcy in 2012. Recently, some young users are returning to traditional technologies, such as compact cameras.
