American Teenager Signs Agreement for Exit from Antarctica
- Etan Guo has been stranded in Antarctica for over a month due to legal issues.
- The court allowed him to remain on the continent under the condition of donating to charity.
- He reported limited food and a connection to the base.
19-year-old American teenager Etan Guo, who is traveling the world to raise money for cancer treatment in children, has been stranded in Antarctica for more than a month after he was accused of illegal landing. He began his journey in early 2024, planning to raise a million dollars for St. Jude's Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
Guo reported an incident during the flight from Chile when his plane encountered problems due to bad weather. As a result, he was forced to land on King George Island, which is under Chilean control. Local officials accused him of making an illegal landing and illegal entry.
On June 29, 2025, Guo was accused of violating laws, but his lawyers claim he received permission to land through a WhatsApp message from a high-ranking official. On Monday, August 14, the court upheld the decision that Guo may remain on the island if he donates $30,000 to a fund for children with cancer. However, he is banned from returning to the territory of Chile for three years.
Guo stated that his food supply is limited, and his connection with the outside world is very restricted. He hopes to leave Antarctica as soon as possible, but it is currently unclear when this will happen.
