On August 14, 2025, Ukrainian Foreign Minister for Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiha held a phone conversation with Canadian colleague Anita Anand. During the conversation, they discussed the issue of strengthening political and sanctions pressure on Russia to achieve a just peace in Ukraine.
Sybiha expressed gratitude to Canada for supporting Ukraine, emphasizing that both sides agreed on the importance of utilizing all available tools to compel Russia to adopt a ceasefire regime and initiate a genuine peace process.
He also stressed the necessity of utilizing the frozen assets of Russia to ensure accountability for the aggressor for its actions. Sybiha added that Canada’s participation in the Coalition of willing states plays an important role in strengthening Ukraine's stability and advancing international efforts to ensure lasting peace.
This conversation took place following recent negotiations that occurred on August 13, involving leaders from Europe, the USA, and Ukraine, regarding the situation in Ukraine and the upcoming meeting between the presidents of Russia and the USA.
