Google Messages Launches Sensitive Content Warnings Feature

  • Google Messages introduces a feature that detects sensitive images.
  • Users can delete detected images without preview.
  • The feature is activated by default for minors, but not for adults.

This is reported by The Verge, CNET.

Google Messages is starting to implement a new feature that detects images with sensitive content. This feature, known as Sensitive Content Warnings, is available to all Android users, as reported by 9to5Google.

The feature allows users to delete detected images without preview and block the sender. Users who attempt to send or forward sensitive images will receive warnings about risks and suggested actions to continue.

This feature was announced in July, but it is now becoming available outside of the limited beta testing phase. For the feature to work, users need to be enrolled in Google Play services, while on non-enrolled accounts, the feature is activated by default. For adult users, it is optional and can be disabled by default.

To activate this feature, users need to tap on the profile photo in the upper right corner, select notification settings, and then tap on the option Warnings for Sensitive Content. Then select Enable Sensitive Content Warnings to activate this feature.

It is worth noting that Google warns that images without warnings may be accidentally identified as sensitive.
