Google Introduces New AI Model Gemma 3 270M
- Gemma 3 270M consumes less energy than its predecessor model.
- The model is available for download and modification for free.
- It supports the execution of complex tasks on mobile devices.
According to Ars Technica, VentureBeat.
On August 14, 2025, Google introduced the new AI model Gemma 3 270M, which is significantly smaller than its predecessors, with 270 million parameters. This model is designed to operate on mobile devices, including smartphones, and can also function without an internet connection. It supports complex tasks and can be quickly configured for specific developer needs.
Google emphasizes that the new model has many advantages, including enhanced privacy and reduced latency. For instance, testing on the Pixel 9 Pro showed that Gemma 3 270M consumed only 0.75% battery charge over 25 queries. This makes the model exceptionally effective for use in resource-constrained environments.
The model demonstrated high results in tests on executing instructions, achieving 51.2% on the IFEval benchmark. This is a better indicator than many other lighter models that have more parameters. Although the new model is more powerful than its predecessors, it demonstrates good performance for its size.
Gemma 3 270M is available for download for free, but using the model is regulated by licensing conditions that prohibit the creation of derivative results. Developers can modify and publish alternate versions of the model, but they are required to adhere to the established rules.
To demonstrate the capabilities of the new model, Google created an add-on for generating stories that works in the browser. This add-on shows how Gemma 3 270M can be used for creative tasks, generating interesting and engaging stories based on user-defined parameters.
