Kellogg Plans to Remove Artificial Colors from Products by 2027
- Kellogg will remove artificial colors by the end of 2027.
- The Texas Attorney General signed an agreement with the company.
- 85% of Kellogg's products already do not contain artificial colors.
The WK Kellogg Co. announced plans to remove artificial colors from its products over the next two years by the end of 2027. This decision was made in response to the increasing pressure from the U.S. government and consumers.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton stated that Kellogg signed an agreement that requires the company to "always remove toxic colors" by the end of 2027. Earlier this year, Paxton began an investigation into possible violations of consumer protection laws related to the use of artificial blue, red, yellow, green, and orange toxic colors.
Both companies, Kellogg and General Mills, expressed their intention to remove artificial colors from all their products. Kellogg already plans not to launch new products with such colors starting this year. According to the company, 85% of its production already does not contain FD&C colors, and none of its products contains the color Red No. 3 for several years.
Artificial colors are used in many products, but advocacy groups are calling for their removal due to potential negative health effects, including problems with attention in children. The FDA confirms that these approved colors are safe for consumption.
