Court appoints trustee for the sale of Infowars assets
- The court appointed a trustee for the sale of Infowars assets
- The Onion is once again attempting to buy Infowars for parody
- Jones intends to continue broadcasting, even if his studio is closed
The Texas court has appointed a trustee for the sale of assets belonging to Infowars, which is associated with conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, to pay over $1 billion that he owes to the families of victims of the shooting in Sandy Hook.
The court's ruling has the potential to restrict Jones' access to his studio in the coming days. This also responds to attempts by the satirical publication The Onion to buy Infowars and transform the platform into a parody. The Onion previously won an auction to purchase Infowars, but the sale was blocked due to problems with the transparency of the process.
The court indicated that the trustee must change the locks on all properties where the assets of Free Speech Systems are located, and restrict access to all premises and websites of Jones. This may lead to the liquidation of Jones's business empire.
Lawyers for the victims' families stated that this is an important step toward achieving justice. Jones, for his part, stated that he intends to continue his activities, even if his studio is closed, and has a reserve studio for conducting shows.
The court also granted the trustee the right to appeal to law enforcement agencies to enforce his obligations. The families of the shooting victims have been trying for three years to obtain compensation for the pain and emotional suffering caused by Jones through his false statements about the tragedy.
