Announcement of new charges in the murder of an agent on the border

  • Teresa Yangblat is charged with the murder of an agent of the U.S. Border Patrol.
  • The group "Zizian" is linked to several murders in different states.
  • Yangblat's attorneys are trying to postpone the court proceedings.

Federal prosecutors have filed new charges against Teresa Yangblat, a 21-year-old woman from Washington, who is a member of the radical group "Zizian". She is charged with the murder of an agent of the U.S. Border Patrol, David Maland, during a traffic stop in Vermont on January 20.

Yangblat, who is also known as Milo, was under the watch of law enforcement after a hotel worker in Lindenville reported suspicious activity involving two individuals wearing black tactical clothing and brandishing firearms. When Border Patrol agents stopped their vehicle on Route 91, Yangblat opened fire, killing Maland and also killing her companion, Ophelia Baukhult.

Along with new documents filed in court, prosecutors plan to seek the death penalty, as Yangblat is charged with the premeditated murder of an officer. This is part of a broader strategy by the Trump administration to increase the use of the death penalty in police murder cases.

The group "Zizian", formed in 2019, is linked to several murders in different states, including the murder of the parents of a member of the group on New Year 2022. Yangblat is also associated with Maximilian Snyder, who is charged in the murder of a landowner in California.

In their statements, Yangblat's attorneys accused the government of violating their client's rights, urging to halt the death penalty process. They appealed to the court requesting to stay the proceedings, but were denied.

In January 2025, when the murder occurred, President Trump signed an order to reinstate the federal death penalty.
