On August 15, 2025, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that the USA is making "broad gestures" to stop the war in Ukraine. This was said during a meeting with US President Donald Trump in Anchorage, Alaska, where they discussed potential agreements on nuclear weapons and economic cooperation.
Trump expressed optimism regarding the possibility of concluding a peace agreement, stating that there is a 75% chance of success in negotiations. He also noted that if the meeting is successful, there is a likelihood of involving European leaders in future negotiations.
At the same time, combat operations continue in Ukraine. Ukrainian military officials reported on the stabilization of the situation in the east, where Russian forces were trying to break through the defenses. Meanwhile, new shelling occurred, during which 84 individuals were released from both sides.
The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer, met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, expressing support for Ukraine and discussing possible security guarantees. Starmer emphasized that Ukraine is fighting for the same values that the Allies fought for during World War II.
Putin also noted that the USA could become partners in ensuring world peace, but Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov warned not to expect any signed documents following the meeting.
