Devastating floods in Kashmir claim lives of people

According to official sources, as a result of these floods, at least 56 people have died, and more than 200 are considered missing without a trace. Most of the victims were in populated areas in the vicinity of Kishtwar, including the village of Chositi, which has become the epicenter of the tragedy.

At the time of the flood, which occurred at 11:30 local time, many people, including several pilgrims, were trapped in the rising water. It is known that at the moment of the disaster, there were more than 200 pilgrims in the village who had gathered for lunch.

Among those missing are many pilgrims who were on their way to the holy place of Machail Mata, located at an altitude of 3000 meters. After the floods, rescue teams, including military and police, began searching for the victims. However, rescue operations were suspended at night due to unsafe weather conditions.

The meteorological service warned about the possibility of new strong rains and floods in the region. The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, stated that the situation is being monitored, and all necessary assistance will be provided to the victims.

Experts indicate that such devastating floods, known for their severity, will become more frequent in the Himalayas due to climate change and unregulated construction in mountainous areas. This increases the risk of disasters that could cause harm to thousands of people.
