Woman from Washington Recognized as Guilty in Attack on Prosecutor

- Sommer received three charges in the attack on public servants
Washington (AP) — A woman who lunged at the federal prosecutor during a recorded interview recognized herself as guilty in the charges against her on Thursday.
Emilie Gabriel Sommer, 32, from Washington, D.C., is to be sentenced on July 10 for the attack on then-acting U.S. Attorney Ed Martin Jr. and two civil rights staffers, who barred her for several days after the incident. Sommer acknowledged her guilt under three counts of assault on public servants, along with information from U.S. Attorney's Office.
The court process for Sommer was scheduled for the upcoming Monday. However, the district court judge Dzia Cobb accepted the recognition of guilt from Sommer and indicated that she would face punishment.
On May 8, the Newsmax reporter took an interview with Martin on the sidewalk outside his office, when Sommer approached him.
“Are you Ed Martin? You are Ed Martin,” Sommer said, as she lunged toward him and grabbed his left shoulder, along with the prosecutors present.
She also insulted Martin, calling him "that awful person," and stated: "My name is Emilie Gabriel Sommer, and you received the summons." Sommer later took personal responsibility for the incident in a statement on social media.
This incident occurred on the same day that President Donald Trump withdrew Martin's nomination for the position of U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia. Martin was criticized by both parties in the Senate following a supercharged term of being in office.
When U.S. Marshals Service employees attempted to arrest Sommer in her apartment on May 22, she lunged at one of them and struck him, along with the other prosecutors.
Sommer also struck another marshal and told another: "I would hit you if I could. I would hit each of you right now," the prosecutors noted.
During her first court appearance in May, Sommer repeatedly disrupted the proceedings, for which she was taken out of the courtroom. Later, she was removed before the judge for her behavior.
