Fort Lauderdale, Florida — Rapper Sean Kingston, whose real name is Kisean Paul Anderson, received a sentence on Friday after being found guilty of fraud of one million dollars.

Kingston and his mother, Yanis Eleanor Turner, were found guilty in the breach of a scheme involving electronic fraud and four incidents of electronic fraud. U.S. District Judge David Leibowitz sentenced Turner last month to five years of probation, but Kingston's sentence was transferred.

Kingston, 35 years old, and his mother were arrested in June 2024 after a SWAT team conducted a raid on Kingston's residence in Fort Lauderdale. Turner was detained during the raid, while Kingston was arrested at Fort Irwin military base in California, where he was performing.

According to court documents, Kingston used social media from April 2023 to December 2024 to organize the purchase of expensive goods. After signing the agreement, he invited sellers to one of his luxurious houses in Florida and promised to advertise them and their products on social media.

As stated by the investigators, when it was time to pay, Kingston or his mother sent the victims detailed invoices for the transfer of money for luxurious goods, which included a branded Escalade, watches, and a 19-foot (5.9 meters) LED television.

When the payments did not arrive, the victims often turned back to Kingston and Turner, but either did not receive any money or only received it after filing complaints or appeals to law enforcement agencies.

Kingston gained popularity at 17 with the hit of 2007 "Beautiful Girls," which featured his lyrics with the song "Stand By Me" by Ben E. King from 1961.
