In New York, in the federal government building at 26 Federal Plaza, converters with an unknown white powder were found. The incident occurred around 4:00 PM on Thursday, August 14, 2025. According to information from the city fire department, the converters were found on the 9th floor, where the immigration and customs enforcement office (ICE) is located.

The building was evacuated, and Hazmat teams were deployed to ensure safety. It is reported that no injuries have been confirmed, and there is no threat to public safety. New York Mayor Eric Adams stated that the situation is under control and an investigation is underway.

FBI specialists reported that testing of the discovered powder is currently ongoing. They noted that similar incidents often turn out to be safe, but this issue should not be underestimated. Officials also urged people to avoid the area of the incident.

This building, which consists of 41 floors, houses the ICE office, as well as the FBI office in New York and the immigration court. Recently, protests against ICE actions have taken place here, including those regarding the detention of immigrants in the building.
