Trump and Putin Discuss Ukraine at Summit
- Trump believes that Putin is ready to agree to a peace deal regarding Ukraine.
- Zelensky was not invited to the summit, but Trump promised to connect with him after the meeting.
- The agreement may involve territorial concessions from Ukraine.
On August 15, 2025, a meeting will take place at a military base in Alaska between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump believes that Putin is ready to implement an agreement for ending the war in Ukraine. However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was not invited to the summit, although Trump promised to connect with him after the meeting.
Ukraine and its European partners express concern about the possibility of an agreement that may force Kyiv to make territorial concessions. Nevertheless, Trump emphasized that the most important would be a trilateral meeting involving him, Putin, and Zelensky, which would take place immediately after the bilateral meeting.
During the meeting, Trump plans to propose allowing Putin access to rare minerals in exchange for ending the conflict. The U.S. President also noted that there could be participation from "some European leaders" in the future meeting.
