Putin Thanks North Korea for Support in Ukraine

The President of Russia Vladimir Putin in a letter to the leader of North Korea Kim Jong Un expressed gratitude for the support and assistance in the war against Ukraine. In the letter, attached to the anniversary of Korea's liberation from Japanese colonial rule, Putin stressed that cooperation between the countries is a strategic partnership.

He mentioned how the divisions of the Soviet Red Army and the North Korean forces fought together to end the Japanese occupation. "The bonds of military friendship, goodwill, and mutual assistance, which were strengthened during wartime, remain strong and reliable today," noted Putin.

The President of Russia characterized the actions of the North Korean military, which are participating in combat operations in Ukraine, as "heroic." He stated that this was due to the heroic participation of the soldiers of North Korea in the liberation of the territory of the Kursk region from the Ukrainian forces.

It is worth noting that earlier this year North Korea confirmed that it sent a contingent of its soldiers to the front in Ukraine alongside Russian troops. According to intelligence from South Korea and Western agencies, in 2024 North Korea plans to send additional troops to Russia at the earliest opportunity. According to them, this includes nearly 6,000 military personnel and 50-100 units of equipment, including main battle tanks and armored personnel carriers.
