Americans Doubt Trump's Approach to the War in Ukraine
- 59% of Americans doubt Trump's handling of the war
- Declining trust in Trump is observed among Republicans
- Polls show a divide in opinions on supporting Ukraine

The majority of Americans do not trust President Donald Trump in his approach to the war, sparked by Russia against Ukraine. According to a poll conducted by Pew Research Center, 59% of respondents expressed "not at all confident" or "not really confident" in Trump's ability to make "wise decisions" regarding this conflict.
The poll indicated that 33% of respondents believe Trump is more supportive of Russia, while only 6% believe he is more supportive of Ukraine. Approximately 28% think he maintains a proper balance, and 32% do not have a clear position.
The survey was conducted from August 4 to 10 among 3,554 adult Americans. Respondents from the Democratic Party expressed less trust in the president's decisions than Republicans. However, even among Republicans, 73% expressed confidence in Trump, which is a decrease from 81% in July 2024.
At this moment, Americans are less likely than in February to believe that Trump supports Russia, after he changed his public stance on the conflict, becoming more critical of Moscow.
In preparation for the meeting between Trump and Putin, the US president warned about "very serious consequences" for Moscow if the Russian leader does not engage in measures to end the war.
