- Bristol's coach Pat Lam supports his ambition to become the best player in the world.
Luke Rus-Zammit, a 24-year-old Welsh winger, announced his return to rugby after signing a contract with Bristol Bears following an unsuccessful experience in NFL. According to the new coach, Pat Lam, Rus-Zammit aims to be "the best player in the world."
Rus-Zammit left the NFL after 20 months, without playing a single game in the regular season. Previously, he played for Gloucester, where he scored 42 tries in 77 matches. His return to rugby, according to him, is connected with a desire to play in an exciting style, which Bristol practices, and the possibility to return to the Welsh national team.
The Bristol club announced a shortage of players, so the signing of Rus-Zammit was a strategically important step. Coach Lam noted that the footballer received several offers from other clubs, but chose Bristol due to the sporting ambition, not money. Rus-Zammit expressed a desire to create memorable moments on the field.
The new head coach of Wales, Steve Tandy, also expressed readiness to discuss the possibility of Rus-Zammit's return to the national team, emphasizing that his experience and physical form could be a great asset for the team.
