Russia is soon to cut payments for military personnel in some regions

Russia is reducing one-time payments for those who sign contracts for service in the army in several regions due to the increasing budget deficit.

Details: According to GUR, in a number of regions of Russia, payments for contractors are significantly being cut. For example, in Bashkortostan, the amount has decreased from 1.6 million to 1 million rubles, in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug — from 3.1 to 1.9 million, in Belgorod region — from 3 million to 800 thousand, in Lower Novgorod — from 3 to 1.5 million rubles.

At the same time, in some regions, payments are increasing. In Tatarstan, the bonus has been raised to 3.1 million rubles, in Ryazan region they promise an additional 1 million, and in Kabardino-Balkaria, the amount has increased from 1.5 to 1.8 million rubles.

GUR notes that in Russia, a "caste system" is forming, where the living conditions of citizens from different regions are assessed differently.

The budget deficit of Russia reached 61 trillion dollars as of January to July 2025, which is four times more than planned. The main reasons are the decline in revenues from oil and gas, unfulfilled tax plans, and a sharp increase in military spending.
