On September 15, 2025, at the upcoming summit of the USA and Russia, the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov arrived in Anchorage, Alaska, wearing a T-shirt with the inscription "USSR". This gesture is perceived as a provocation, especially since Lavrov and other members of the delegation have reinforced their policy that denies the legitimacy of Ukraine.
Lavrov, known for his aggressive rhetoric, uses such symbols to emphasize the traditional narrative of the Kremlin about the unity of Russians and Ukrainians. Many members of the delegation, including Lavrov, began their careers during the Soviet era, which drew criticism from the Russian opposition.
In response, Ukrainian activists held a protest action in Anchorage, expressing their outrage at such actions. Meanwhile, Russian propagandists commented on the menu, which included chicken cutlets "Kyiv" during the journalists' trip to Alaska. This choice was also highlighted as part of the Russian trolling policy.
As of September 15, Russian journalists remain in secret conditions, as they have been placed in the hockey team's locker room, which previously served as a hospital during the pandemic.
