Washington Attorney Files Suit Against Trump Administration Over Police Control
- The lawsuit accuses Trump's administration of controlling the police in the Washington area.
- It was stated that the actions of the administration violate the right of the district to self-governance.
- The district attorney considers these actions to be the greatest threat to self-governance.
The Attorney General of Washington, Brian Schwalb, filed a lawsuit in federal court, accusing the Trump administration of actions regarding control over the police in the district. The lawsuit, filed on Friday, responds to an executive order from Trump, issued on Monday, and an order from General Prosecutor Pam Bondi, issued on Thursday, which asserts that the federal government has control over the police in the district.
Schwalb stated that these orders undermine the powers that can be granted to the district and can only be used in extreme situations. He emphasized that "the overall occupation of the district's police is an abuse of its limited powers, violating the right of the district to self-governance and placing residents and guests of D.C. under threat without justification."
The lawsuit concerns the actions of the administration being "an infringement on the rights and autonomy of 700,000 Americans who call D.C. their home." Schwalb also stressed that this is the greatest threat to the self-governance of the district, and they are fighting to stop it.
The lawsuit demands that the federal court recognizes the actions of the administration as unconstitutional and violations of the law regarding the self-governance of the district.
This is developing history
