Louisiana filed a lawsuit against Roblox over inadequate child protection
- The Louisiana prosecutor accuses Roblox of inadequate protection for children.
- The platform is under criticism for its content and for banning user accounts.
- Calls for the CEO of Roblox to resign are growing amid the scandal.
The Attorney General of Louisiana, Liz Murrell, has filed a lawsuit against the platform Roblox, accusing the company of failing to implement necessary measures to protect children from online predators. She stated that Roblox is an "ideal place for pedophiles" due to the lack of adequate user verification checks.
The lawsuit mentions data indicating that nearly 20% of the 82 million users of the platform are children aged up to nine years old. Murrell noted that users can easily create accounts with false information, allowing predators to pose as children.
Among the content on the platform are games that contain sexually explicit elements, such as "Escape to Epstein Island." The lawsuit also mentions that a man arrested in Louisiana on suspicion of possessing materials related to sexual abuse of children used Roblox to lure young users.
Roblox responded to the allegations, stating that it provides significant resources for identifying and preventing inappropriate content. Meanwhile, the company acknowledged criticism for banning "military" users who attempted to identify pedophiles on the platform, which sparked outrage among gamers.
According to the data, Murrell asserts that Roblox ignores child protection on the platform, and calls for the resignation of General Director David Baszucki are increasing. The petition for support of this has over 64,000 signatures.
