Arsenal Supports Martin Ødegaard as Team Captain

  • Players of Arsenal unanimously supported Ødegaard as team captain.
  • Arteta emphasized that the team is striving for new successes this season.
  • Changes in the rules of the game may affect the outcomes of matches.

London (AP) — Mikel Arteta confirmed that Arsenal players have no doubts about Martin Ødegaard's quality as captain. Ødegaard, who has been the team captain for three years, leads Arsenal towards new goals ahead of the season start in the match against Manchester United this weekend.

Club legend Tony Adams urged Arteta to pass the captain's armband to Declan Rice, hoping that this would enhance the team's chances of winning their first title in the top division since 2004. However, Arteta, a former Arsenal captain himself, stated that this will not happen.

"This is not just my thought, this is the thought of the entire coaching staff and, in particular, the players. I asked them to propose a captain, and the results showed that everyone unanimously chose Ødegaard," said Arteta.

He noted that three consecutive second-place finishes do not force the team to give up. "You usually continue, so that one day success comes," added Arteta. Arsenal aims to earn even more points in the new season.

Ødegaard is also the captain of the Norway national team. Arteta expressed hope that changes in the rules this season will be applied gradually, unlike the previous year.
