U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the United States, together with Europe, could provide security guarantees for Ukraine, but not in the form of NATO membership. He expressed this thought during a conversation with journalists on board the plane, which was heading to Ankara, where a meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin is planned.
Trump emphasized that the possibility of providing guarantees exists, but Ukraine's NATO membership is excluded. "There are certain things that will not happen," he said, specifying that Ukraine should resolve the issue of its borders itself, but this decision must be made by Ukraine itself.
Additionally, Trump noted that if he were not president, Putin could have taken over all of Ukraine. He also commented on the blockades that Russia is conducting, stating that Putin is trying to create conditions for a more favorable agreement. Trump believes that these actions only harm Putin himself.
The U.S. president also did not rule out the possibility of reducing the U.S. military presence in Europe, which could help achieve peace in Ukraine. He responded to a question about the possibility of a reduction in NATO troop levels in countries like Poland, noting that this issue has not yet been resolved.
