Ukraine continues to attack the Russian oil industry, delivering strikes with drones on facilities located far from the border. In September 2025, Ukrainian drones targeted oil refineries and coal distribution centers, inflicting damage on the Russian economy.
On September 15, 2025, Ukrainian forces carried out a distant strike on the ship "Port Olya-4" in the port of Olya, located in the Astrakhan region of Russia. This ship, according to Kyiv, was transporting components for "Shahed" drones and drones from Iran. The Ukrainian military command confirmed that the ship suffered damage, and an assessment of the consequences of the attack is currently underway.
This attack occurred shortly before the summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, which is taking place in Almaty. Ukrainian drones also inflicted strikes on Russian oil refineries in cities such as Samara and Volgograd, which indicates an increase in activity of Ukrainian Armed Forces in September.
Kyiv aims to demonstrate the vulnerability of Russia on its territory, particularly ahead of possible peace negotiations. Meanwhile, as reported, Russian forces are trying to maintain strategic positions in eastern Ukraine, especially in the Donetsk region, where heavy fighting occurred last week.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukrainian forces are successfully resisting attempts by Russian forces to secure themselves in the occupied territories, stressing the need to strengthen defense in the region.
