- Drake demands documents regarding the promotion of the song and UMG's communications.
Universal Music Group (UMG) is suing Drake, the chief executive director of the company. Lucian Grainge claims he has not personally been involved in the release and promotion of the disc by Kendrick Lamar "Not Like Us". In his letter to the court, Grainge referred to the lawsuit as "baseless". He asserts that he has not heard the song prior to its release.
Drake filed a lawsuit against UMG in January 2025, accusing the company of disseminating false information about him through the lyrics of the song, where Lamar insinuates that Drake is a pedophile. Specifically, in the song, there are lines that refer to "Certified Lover Boy," which Drake believes is related to the label.
In response to the lawsuit, UMG stated that Drake is attempting to waste their resources and time, trying to obtain documents related to Grainge, although he previously had requested these documents. The company asserts that Grainge had no significant involvement in the marketing of the song.
Drake demands documents related to UMG's involvement in the promotion of "Not Like Us" and communications with platforms like Spotify and YouTube. He also expresses suspicion regarding the use of bots to increase song views, while UMG is simply countering this lawsuit.
The legal process continues, and UMG is preparing a counterclaim against Drake, indicating that he himself provoked the conflict, having participated in the public super clash with Lamar.
