FC Goa Prepares for the Match Against Al-Nassr and Ronaldo

  • FC Goa is preparing for the historic match against Al-Nassr.
  • Ronaldo's Christian and the team's stars will arrive in India in November.
  • Indian football needs support in times of crisis.

Christian Ronaldo is visiting India to meet with FC Goa in the AFC Champions League match. This event is considered "historic" for the country.

The Al-Nassr team from Saudi Arabia has been drawn into Group D along with the Indian Super League (ISL) club and two other teams: Istiklol from Tajikistan and Al-Zawra from Iraq. The best two teams from each of the eight groups will advance to the knockout stage.

"This is truly a moment that does not happen twice for FC Goa," said the club's general director Ravi Puskur. "Playing against Al-Nassr and Christian Ronaldo is undoubtedly the biggest game in the history of Indian club football."

Ronaldo, who is 40 years old, has yet to win a major trophy since signing with the club in 2022, and the team is looking forward to being at full strength when the match takes place in November.

Al-Nassr, which finished third in the Saudi Pro League last season, also has in its squad famous players, such as former Liverpool star Sadio Mane and Joao Felix, the Portuguese player who joined from Chelsea in the summer.

"For Indian football, this is historic," added Puskur. "We are here on the basis of merit, and such a match gives us the opportunity to show that we can compete at the continental level, becoming part of the biggest narratives in sports."

Puskur emphasized that this match will draw global attention to Indian football, which is crucial for the development of the game in the country.

"This unique opportunity to attract global attention to Indian football also provides a chance to increase interest among fans across the country, giving the game the attention it has long needed," he said.

The draw took place against the backdrop of the crisis in Indian football. The ISL 2025-26 season was supposed to start in November but has been postponed due to unresolved issues in the renewed agreement between the Indian federation and its commercial partner, Football Sports Development Ltd., awaiting a decision from the Supreme Court.

FC Bengaluru, Odisha FC, and Chennaiyin FC have either suspended their operations or halted football operations due to the ongoing resolution.

"I want the financial influx to be significant, the more important it is, the more opportunities it creates for sustainable growth," said Puskur. "Global attention, sponsor interest, and attracting fans from such a moment contribute to strengthening the club's foundation, allowing us to invest in the future."
