Over 250 People Killed Due to Flooding in Pakistan and India

  • Over 250 fatalities resulted from flooding in Pakistan and India.
  • Rescue operations in mountainous areas were hampered by adverse weather conditions.
  • Climate changes are affecting the frequency of flooding in the region.

As of September 15, 2025, the number of fatalities resulting from flooding in northern India and Pakistan has surpassed 250 individuals. The governments of both countries confirmed that the number of victims continues to rise.

Pakistan: More than 200 Dead

In northern and northwestern Pakistan, at least 199 people have died due to recent flooding. Rescuers evacuated 1,300 tourists who were stranded in the mountainous region due to landslides. Another 35 individuals are considered missing without a trace.

The majority of fatalities in Pakistan occurred in the mountainous region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According to a representative of the Disaster Management Authority, in this region, due to landslides, flooding, and the collapse of buildings, over 110 individuals have died.

Helicopter Disaster

A helicopter that participated in rescue operations crashed in Pakistan, resulting in the deaths of five people, including crew members.

In the region administered by Pakistan, on the territory of Kashmir, seven more people died.

India: 60 Dead, 80 Missing in Chosita

In the mountainous village of Chosita in the administrative area of Kashmir, India, rescuers continue to search for survivors after flooding claimed the lives of at least 60 people. About 200 individuals are considered missing without a trace, likely buried under water.

The village of Chosita was evacuated due to flooding to the shrine of the local Indian deity.

Climate Changes and Flooding

Experts indicate that intense rains, known as "cloudbursts," are becoming increasingly common in the Himalayan regions of India and northern Pakistan, leading to flooding and landslides. Climate change worsens the situation, and studies indicate that rainfall in Pakistan from June 24 to July 23 was 10-15% higher than usual.
