Miami has traded forward Haywood Highsmith to Brooklyn Nets on Friday, allowing the team to exit the salary cap threshold for the upcoming season and create flexibility in the roster.
In addition, Miami has sent a second-round pick in 2032 to Brooklyn, at which time Brooklyn will send a conditional second-round pick in the upcoming draft to Miami.
With Highsmith's transfer, Miami now has two open roster spots.
Highsmith's transfer operation on his knee began at the start of this month for recovery, and his return timeline is expected to be 8-10 weeks, which indicates the possibility of his participation in the beginning of the regular season.
The 28-year-old Highsmith played in 74 games last season, averaging 6.5 points and 3.4 rebounds. Over the past four seasons in Miami, his average indicator has been 5.5 points.
In the upcoming season, Highsmith will earn nearly $5.6 million. Brooklyn may sign this contract into their available capital, which allows them to make a trade without the need to send salary back to Miami.
