- The violations occurred in five matches of the previous season.
Aston Villa has agreed to pay a fine of £125,000 following the acknowledgment of violations of the multiball system rules in five matches of the previous season. The Premier League reported that the club breached rules established to maintain the pace of matches, in five home games in the 2024-25 season.
The club will not be allowed to utilize the multiball system in their first three home matches of the new season. This decision pertains to matches against Newcastle, Crystal Palace, and Fulham. The identified violations occurred during matches when substitutions were made for the Villa players instead of them being substituted at the corner, which violates the rules.
Additionally, during the match against Tottenham on May 16, 2025, substitutions were made for corner and penalty kicks, while in some cases substitutions were made on the field when the goalkeeper was already prepared to execute a goal kick. The Premier League emphasized that adherence to the rules is crucial for ensuring fairness in matches.
This is not the first violation of the multiball rules for the club, but they have become the first to receive a fine of more than £100,000, which drew media attention.
