Meta Revises Its AI Policy for Children

  • Meta revises its AI policy following criticism
  • Senator Josh Hawley has initiated an investigation into the company
  • Chatbots may have inappropriate conversations with children

On August 15, 2025, Meta acknowledges criticism through its internal policies that allow AI chatbots to have "romantic" and "emotional" conversations with children. According to a document that became known through Reuters, chatbots could talk to children using phrases that may be inappropriate in various contexts.

Meta's spokesperson, Mark Zuckerberg, received a letter from Senator Josh Hawley, who is initiating an investigation into the company's activities. Hawley emphasizes that it is necessary to verify whether Meta's policies allow for the exploitation of children or introduce them to harm.

According to the internal document from Meta, chatbots could talk to children using phrases such as "every day I love you – it's a miracle." However, the company stated that such examples were incidental and do not reflect its policy.

Senator Marsha Blackburn expressed support for the investigation, while Senator Ron Wyden noted that these policies are "deeply troubling." At the same time, Meta plans to invest nearly $65 billion in AI development.
