Today, September 15, 2025, rapper Sean Kingston, whose real name is Kisean Anderson, received 3.5 years in federal prison in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, for fraud involving the use of electronic transfers totaling over $1 million. Along with him, his mother, Janice Turner, who received five years in prison.
Kingston and his mother were found guilty in June 2025 after being accused of using the rapper's name to defraud wealthy companies. They ordered expensive goods, but the payment was made with fake transfers that were never completed.
The fraud lasted several years, starting from April 2023 until February 2024. Kingston and Turner invited vendors to their homes, usually advertising products on social media. When it was time to pay, they sent fake invoices.
During the court hearing, Kingston's mother acknowledged her role, stating that she had to protect her son from the fraudsters. Kingston refused to testify. Prosecutors provided text messages indicating Kingston's involvement in the fraud.
Before the sentencing, the rapper claimed that he received profits from his own actions. His attorney requested the court for a domestic arrest due to the non-violent nature of the crime, but the court upheld the sentence for imprisonment.
Sean Kingston became popular with his hit "Beautiful Girls," which topped the Billboard charts in 2007. It is known that his mother was previously sentenced for bank fraud.
