Tottenham's coach Thomas Frank confirmed that Christian Romero has become the new captain of the team following the departure of Son Heung-min to Los Angeles FC. Romero, who is 27 years old, received the captaincy under the condition of a clear potential transition to Athletic Madrid and questions regarding his departure from the club.
Frank stated that Romero demonstrates high performance in training and has the potential to become an even better leader. "I see that he wants to lead the team forward," said Frank, emphasizing that the choice of captain is not related to the contractual situation of the player, who will end his contract in two years.
Romero already has experience with captaincy in the European League finals. Frank noted that the player has earned respect among his teammates and establishes high standards on the field. The club also has plans for further attacks, and negotiations are ongoing regarding new transfers.
At the same time, on the day of Romero's debut as captain in the match against Burnley, there will be a protest from fans expressing their dissatisfaction with the unclear transfer policy of the club.
