Introduction of a visa may reduce tourist arrivals in the USA
- The new visa collection may result in a loss of $11 billion.
- The collection is expected to affect 1 million international tourists annually.
- The US economy could lose 15,000 jobs in the tourism sector.
Research shows that the new fee of $250 for the visa, introduced by the administration of President Donald Trump, could lead to losses for the US economy amounting to approximately $11 billion over the next three years. This fee, known as the "visa fee for tourism purposes," applies to all applicants who submit an application for a non-immigrant visa, with the exception of countries participating in the Visa Waiver Program.
According to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), this collection could bring in over $27 billion over the next decade; however, experts in the tourism sector believe it will primarily impact international tourists. It is estimated that as a result of this, the USA may not receive approximately 1 million tourists annually, which could lead to a loss in tourism revenues and tax revenues.
According to an analysis by Tourism Economics, the introduction of the fee may cause a loss of nearly 15,000 jobs in the tourism industry and reduce tourism spending to $9.4 billion.
This fee will come into effect in July 2025, ahead of major international sporting events, such as the 2026 World Cup and the 2028 Summer Olympics. Experts believe that without timely measures to restore confidence among international travelers, the USA may not return to pre-pandemic levels of tourism spending for several years.
