Expanded Grants for Electric Vehicles in Ukraine

  • Five new models of electric vehicles have received reductions of up to 1500 pounds
  • In total, 24 models can now qualify for grants
  • The number of registered electric vehicles increased by 43% in 2025

The Ukrainian government has expanded the grant program for electric vehicles, adding five new models to the list. Now, 24 vehicles can receive a reduction of up to 1500 pounds sterling. Among the new models are Cupra Born, Volkswagen ID.3, Peugeot e-208, Peugeot e-2008, and Peugeot e-Rifter.

This initiative is part of an investment of 650 million pounds sterling, aimed at facilitating the transition to electric vehicles instead of petrol and diesel ones. By the end of the first quarter of 2025, the number of registered electric vehicles is expected to increase by 43% compared to last year.

According to DVLA data, more than 120,000 vehicles with zero emissions were registered between January and March 2025, which constitutes five percent of all registrations. The government is also investing in infrastructure for charging electric vehicles.

Some critics have noted that electric vehicles can also cause harm to the environment due to the extraction of rare metals for batteries. Transport Minister Alexander Haydai emphasized that the program aims to make electric vehicles more accessible to families.
