Pegula and Draper Unite for the Mixed Doubles Tournament

  • Jessica Pegula and Jack Draper have teamed up to participate in the mixed doubles tournament.
  • Young player Sinner is also looking for a new partner after Emma Navarro's withdrawal.
  • The tournament starts on August 18 and has a prize fund of 1 million dollars.

New York — Jessica Pegula and Jack Draper have teamed up to participate in the mixed doubles tournament at the US Open, as their previous partners have exited the tournament.

Top player among men, young Sinner also needs a new partner, who wants to participate in the competition starting this week in Monterrey, Mexico. His partner Emma Navarro also withdrew from the tournament to play next week.

Pegula started playing with American Tommy Paul, while Draper paired with Paul Badosa. Pegula, Draper, and Sinner have the opportunity to find a new partner before the deadline, preserving direct entry into the main draw of 16 teams, whose combined ranking in the individual draw will be sufficiently high.

As of the deadline for submitting applications, Pegula, finalist of the women’s singles draw at last year’s tournament, and Draper had a combined ranking of 9.

After the withdrawal of players and new pairs, Italians Jasmyn Paulini and Lorenzo Musetti also made it to the main draw through their combined ranking.

Currently, 13 spots are filled, including defending champions in mixed pairs Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori, who received one wildcard from the U.S. Tennis Association. They expressed criticism regarding the new format, which provides for a shortened doubles tournament, in which top players will primarily participate in the singles draw.

Other teams that passed without a wildcard include: Iga Swiatek and Kaspar Ruud, Elena Rybakina and Taylor Fritz, Amanda Anisimova and Holger Rune, Belinda Bencic and Alexander Zverev, as well as Miu Andreyeva and Daniil Medvedev.

Other wildcard pairs received by Emma Raducanu and Carlos Alcaraz, Madison Keys and Frances Tiafoe, Olga Danilovich and Novak Djokovic, Taylor Townsend and Ben Shelton, as well as Venus Williams and Reilly Opelka.
