The Court is Judging the Former Commander in the Context of the Review of Video of Domestic Violence

  • Three women filed a lawsuit against the former commander in the context of domestic violence.
  • Edward Aber reviewed the video of domestic violence more than 3000 times.
  • The lawsuit includes violations of women's constitutional rights.

In Denver, three women, who were among more than 100 victims, whose videos of domestic violence were publicly repeated by the former commander in the state of Colorado, filed a lawsuit against him and the government. They claim that the authorities did not control who had access to these images and by what means.

The federal lawsuit, filed in the middle, states that the La Plata County and its sheriff's office knew about Edward Aber's history, related to accusations of sexual rights violations, including his employment. They did not take measures to control access to the video recordings.

Aber is already facing criminal prosecution following a state investigation, which revealed that he reviewed video recordings of at least 117 women-victims over approximately five years. These recordings are conducted by women-deputies, and they are recorded for verification of the existence of contraband.

According to the documents, Aber registered to access videos more than 3000 times, primarily with the aim of reviewing the recordings, without visible reasons. The videos were reviewed even from the home or hotels, often late at night or early in the morning.

Aber was accused in the indictment of one count of abusing a service position and 117 counts of intrusion into privacy, all of which involve offenses of minor severity. The lawsuit also aims to include other women, whose videos could have been reviewed by Aber.

The attorney for the plaintiffs states that the need for the recordings is essential, it is necessary to establish restrictions on access to such intimate moments, in order not to undermine trust in the criminal justice system.
