SEATTLE (AP) — The Seattle Seahawks secured their first win of the season, defeating the Kansas City Chiefs with a score of 33-16 in a preseason game held at Lumen Field. Sam Darnold, who made his debut for the team, showcased his abilities, completing the first drive with 34 yards, going 4 for 4 in passes.

Darnold, who signed a three-year contract worth $100.5 million, actively utilized his new and tight end receivers. He found AJ Barner and Elijah Arroyo for short passes, as well as Robby Ucsta and Jackson Smita-Ndjigbu for deeper completions.

Backup quarterback Drew Lock also impressed, throwing two touchdowns to Jake Bobo and completing 10 of 12 passes for 129 yards. Running backs Zach Charbonnet and Damien Martinez added to the touchdowns in the first and third quarters respectively.

The Kansas City Chiefs did not field their main players, such as quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce. Backup quarterback Gardner Minshew found Robert Tonyan for a touchdown in the second quarter.

The Seahawks' defense primarily stifled the Chiefs' reserves, allowing them to score only three points in the second half. Wide receiver Skyy Moore returned a punt for a touchdown in the closing moments of the game.

The Seahawks aimed to improve their performance on the ground, accumulating 268 yards on 48 attempts, which is a significant improvement compared to last season.

The next match for the Seahawks will be on September 23 against the Green Bay Packers, while the Chiefs will play on September 22 against the Chicago Bears.
