Jade Thirlwall spoke out against Matty Healy due to his political position

  • Jade Thirlwall revealed Matty Healy's political stance.
  • Thirlwall is an active advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and a supporter of a free Palestine.
  • Healy previously made political statements, but now he claims to be neutral.

Bandmate Jade Thirlwall exposed Matty Healy for his recent statement that he does not want the downfall of his band The 1975 to be associated with politics. In her speech on stage at the Glastonbury festival this June, Healy stated: "We need less politics. We need more love and friendship." In response to this, Thirlwall, performing on the Woodsies stage, expressed her protest against the Reform UK party, the cuts to social spending, the suppression of protests, and the sale of arms.

In an interview with The Guardian, Thirlwall described Healy's position as "disappointing." She emphasized that "one cannot be a pop artist and close their eyes to reality." Thirlwall, who is an active advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and a vocal supporter of a free Palestine, highlighted that such statements are easy for "privileged people."

Thirlwall, who gained popularity in the group Little Mix, also mentioned her activism on social issues, including protests against military actions. She noted that during the Black Lives Matter protests, her family was impacted by racism, which propelled her to take active measures. In 2015, Thirlwall even utilized Twitter to express her outrage over the parliament's approval of bombing Syria.

Healy, on the other hand, previously made political statements, including against anti-LGBT laws in Malaysia, but now claims he intends to remain politically neutral in his performances. This change in position has provoked outrage in Thirlwall, who believes that artists should utilize their platform to raise important social issues.
