A group of 96 Members of Parliament from Great Britain has sent a letter to the government, urging the urgent evacuation of sick and injured children from Gaza for treatment. They emphasized that the lives of children are at risk, and all barriers to their evacuation should be removed.
The letter states that the medical system in Gaza has been "devastated," and the humanitarian situation is catastrophic. The MPs are asking for the provision of evacuation graphics and necessary funding.
According to UNICEF data, since the start of the war in Gaza, which began in July 2023, more than 50,000 children have been killed or injured. The letter, coordinated by a doctor and MP from the Labour Party, Dr. Simon Ofer, calls for evacuation based on critical need and individual assessment.
It is also being discussed the possibility of granting children and their families refugee status or the possibility of resettlement in Great Britain after treatment. Earlier, the Ministry of Internal Affairs announced plans to conduct biometric checks before evacuation, but the MPs raised doubts about the practicality of this process.
At the same time, according to UN data, since July 2023, at least 1,760 Palestinians have died during attempts to receive aid in Gaza. Most of these deaths, according to the organization, were due to fire from Israeli forces.
According to information provided by the Israeli army, their forces aim to eliminate the military capabilities of Hamas and protect civilian casualties. However, international coalition expresses concern over the significant reduction of humanitarian aid in the region.
