Kili Khodzhykynson returns to competition with a victory in the Diamond League

Kili Khodzhykynson, the Olympic champion in the 800 meters, returned to competition after a 376-day break due to injuries. On Saturday, September 16, 2025, she won the Diamond League event in Silesia, showing a result of 1:54.74, which became the best time in the world this year.

This time is also the ninth best in history. Khodzhykynson noted that she was satisfied with her performance and is ready for the World Championships, which will begin on September 13 in Tokyo.

In the final of the competition, Khodzhykynson demonstrated a strong start, taking second place at the start, and then, after moving to the finishing straight, increased her lead to 10 meters. Behind her finished Kenyan Lillian Odira with a personal record of 1:56.52 and Botswana's Oritele Noe with a national record of 1:56.72.

In this tournament, athlete Feit Kipion attempted to break the world record in the 3000 meters, but finished with a time of 8:07.04, which was only a second slower than the record.
