In the opening of the new Premier League season, Manchester City secured a 4:0 victory over Wolverhampton. Erling Haaland started with two goals, while debutants Tijani Redknap and Oscar Bobb also made their mark in the Super League.
Before the match began, Wolverhampton honored the memory of former player Diogo Jota, observing a minute of applause. Shortly after the starting whistle, Wolverhampton scored a goal, but it was disallowed for offside. Soon, City opened the scoring with goals from Redknap and Haaland, who once again confirmed his status as one of the league's best forwards.
Redknap, who was signed in the summer transfer window, demonstrated impressive skills, scoring one goal and providing an assist. Bobb, in his turn, showed his readiness to become a key player on the right flank, providing a notable match.
Also debuting was James Trafford, who replaced the injured Ederson. Trafford fully participated in the first game, although several times his skills were tested by Wolverhampton players.
The head coach of Manchester City, Pep Guardiola, mentioned the problems in the selection of his team, noting that in the middle of the first half, Wolverhampton had several opportunities for a counterattack. Guardiola also emphasized that he has the task of finding a balance between attacking and defensive players in the team.
The next match for Manchester City will take place on August 23 against Tottenham at home.
