- Robert Fico called for security guarantees for Russia.
- The meeting between Trump and Putin did not result in specific agreements.
- Putin did not change his position regarding the war in Ukraine.
About this reports RBC Ukraine, Ukrinform.
Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico echoed thoughts similar to Kremlin's during a discussion about the war in Ukraine. He emphasized the "root causes" of the conflict and called for providing Russia security guarantees. In his video address, Fico stated that "the war in Ukraine has historical roots" and it is important to talk about security guarantees both for Ukraine and for Russia.
These comments coincide with the meeting of U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin, which took place on September 15-16 at a military base in Alaska. Both leaders described the negotiations as productive, but no specific agreements regarding the war in Ukraine were announced.
After the meeting, Trump connected with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, discussing the situation with European allies. Meanwhile, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) confirmed that Putin did not change his rhetoric regarding Ukraine, stressing the importance of addressing the "root causes" of the war, which the Kremlin identifies as NATO expansion and discrimination against Russians in Ukraine.
ISW notes that such statements are part of the standard rhetoric of the Kremlin, which aims to justify Russia's illegal aggression against Ukraine.
