Governor of West Virginia Patrick Morrisey announced on Saturday the deployment of between 300 to 400 National Guard service members to Washington. He stated that West Virginia supports President Trump in his efforts to restore order and beauty to the capital.

This deployment is part of the Trump administration's response to combat crime and unrest. Major General James Hoyer emphasized the readiness of the National Guard of the state to support the administration in ensuring safety and security in the capital.

Other states sending the National Guard

In addition to West Virginia, governors of Southern Carolina and Ohio also announced the deployment of their service members. Governor of Southern Carolina Henry McMaster allowed the deployment of 200 service members, while Governor of Ohio Mike DeWine announced the deployment of 150 military police officers. DeWine clarified that these troops are not law enforcement officers in Ohio.

Protests against the disbandment of the National Guard

These protests have emerged in response to the increase in the presence of federal law enforcement and the National Guard in Washington. Mayor of Washington Muriel Bowser has called on residents to unite, stating that the city is facing serious disturbances.

Trump on this week announced a state of emergency due to "the failure of the local government to maintain order." He also emphasized that crime in Washington is a serious problem. Meanwhile, the Trump administration has reversed decisions regarding control over the Washington police, allowing local leadership to remain in their positions.
